MOTHERHOOD - A woman's unique identity

A lot of times, I sit back and think what it means to have been born as A WOMAN. I read articles, eccentric articles, which state the boon and bane of being a woman. There are snippets of cover stories given by the influential women across the globe that inspire the rest of us. The fundamentals of feminism questioned every other day. The grave act of slavery on some, the rewarding and proud achievements of the other's in any form - it can go on and on.

But for me, off-late, as I have been maturing as a woman in her 30's, the one thing I round off to - is the beauty of MOTHERHOOD.

The divine power bestowed on a woman to create a life inside of her has been fascinating, intriguing, empowering, overwhelming and nurturing at the same time. The art of being able to caress a piece of flesh and blood as if it was your own is a feeling beyond expression.

I was having a chat with a friend who was in her 3rd trimester and was developing cold feet despite having a supporting family (from both sides), a caring partner and after reading the most recommended book for all the expectant mother's "What to expect when you're expecting" - 'Will I Be A Good Mother?', she asked. The most instinctive reply that I gave her was, "having a baby is a testimony of the love you share with your partner. The very feeling when you hold the baby in your hands for the first time, that's when you'll know what it means to be in love with your partner and having to create a life together. There is no rule book for being a perfect mother. It's the link between your emotional and logical side in a given situation which is right for your baby that will determine how good a mother you are and you'll be. It's an act of balance. You won't be right all the time, you won't be in the best of mood all the time - that's ok. Trust me, it will all be worth it."

That instinctive answer still linger's on my mind even to this day. There was one thing I realised that night when I spoke to her, the completeness of being a woman is in being a mother. Whether you're blessed to be a biological mother or you decide to adopt a child to provide him/her a home beneath your wings or lend yourself to surrogate a child - it's fundamentally the feeling of calling someone your own. That feeling when your baby reaches out to you amidst a crowd is most reassuring and warm which cannot be substituted with anything. There are times when I land into a situation, where I start to doubt myself in terms of making a right decision. At that moment, I try to think like a mother and have a role play in my head being both the mother and the daughter. More often that not, I tend to take the right decision. Maybe this is what a heart of a mother does to a mind of a woman.

Some experiences, be it your own that you go through or be it the one's that you hear of your close friends and family, shatter you from within. These are the ones, that make you or break you emotionally, so much so that, you start to question the fundamentals of right or wrong. At times, when you want to pursue what it right at the expense of those around you, tell you the righteousness of being a human. The grave mistakes that you do with your sanity in place, those are the hardest to get over with.

P.S: Dedicated to all the expecting mother's and all the mother's out there. Be proud of making and giving lives. It's a blessing! A Privilege!

Shukran Dubai

As a child, I grew up listening to the fascinating tales of The Arabian Nights. The incredible lavish lifestyle that was described in the tales of the history, the iconic Arabian Belly dancing and of course the famous story of Ali Baba and The 40 Thieves transcended me from the city nights to the dreamland of rich and varied heritage. Cut to 30 years later, when I finally had the opportunity to travel to this magnificent city, it was time to live and experience the childhood memories.

Dubai is the most glamorous and one the most progressive emirates in the UAE. Luxury lifestyle is synonymous to this city.  So when I decided to visit and explore this place, my excitement levels were at its peak. I had heard so much about Dubai that I really wanted to take it slow when it came to exploring the city.

The first pit-stop had to be the gorgeous Burj Khalifa. Standing tall at 830m high, this sky scrapper will for sure leave you spellbound with its architecture details and magnanimity. There are two pit-stop to Burj Khalifa  - One at the 124th floor and the other at the 148th floor which has an observation deck. Another interesting fact about the tallest structure is that you get to the 124th floor in an elevator in about 60secs! The entrance to Burj Khalifa is through the luxurious Dubai Mall. If you are a brand addict and do not mind in splurging, this mall is for you. The brands that you see on your favorite celebrities are available all under one roof.

Burj Khalifa - at the break of dusk

The parkland of Burj Khalifa has an artificial lake. Take a ride in the Abra at the dusk in the lake to witness the beautiful Dubai Fountain Show.

If there is anything adventurous that I have done in my life till now, then The Hot Air Balloon ride will definitely be on the number one spot. This was how I wanted to visit the desserts of Dubai, get a close look at the Falcon show and do the dune bashing. Whether you're with a partner, in a group or just a solo traveler; the hot air balloon ride offers the mesmerizing ride at the crack of dawn, seeing the sunrise from the balloon, float through the cool breeze of the dessert and finally landing on the dune - once in a lifetime experience.
Sunrise from The Hot Air Balloon

Visit The Gold Souks of Dubai if you're the type who loves jewlery. They have something in store for all age groups and the designs are infinite.

You can't not go to Atlantis  The Palm when in Dubai. This place is another world altogether. With a theme park, luxury residences; you can just go on and on about Atlantis. Luxury is an underrated term for this place. I just loved every bit of time spent here. The people, the place, the beautiful cars driving through the drive ways, the restaurants - my favorite Gordan Ramsay has his restaurant here; I could just go on with the list of delight.
The Atlantis

Getting around in Dubai is extremely easy and tourist friendly. There are the Dubai Rails that are very well connected to most of the tourist locations. The taxi's are also plenty in number although a bit heavy on the pocket. In case you plan to pub hop or stay out late, cabs are recommended as the traffic rules and laws are very strict in Dubai.

I left a little early before The Dubai Global Village festivities kick started. But if you can plan your trip around the next Global Village Festival to witness the culture and heritage of different countries in one place, you surely want to be in Dubai during this time.

I was also hoping to see Shah Rukh's residence in The Atlantis while I was there, but I was denied access (what a bummer!!).

My next trip to Dubai will definitely be around The Dubai Shopping Festival so that I can shop till I drop. Until then, Shukran Dubai!

Truly Asia - Malaysia and Singapore

For a very long time I wanted to visit Malaysia and Singapore - a lot was heard about these two tropical destinations.

I was overjoyed to plan an exhaustive week long itinerary with the must-see places. Although Malaysia was limited to just a couple of tourist attractions, Singapore had many more places to visit. It would not be wrong to call Singapore as efficient but an expensive city.

I landed in Kuala Lumpur late in the evening and drove straight to my hotel Furama Bukt Bintang in Kuala Lumpuer - very comfortable room. The first day was to explore the local city in their local transport. The best way to see and feel the local culture of any city is by interacting with the aam janta. Due to heavy showers the previous night, the weather was apt for the day scouting. I took the hop-on-hop-off bus in Malaysia which had decent pit stops at the most visited places. The only place I was really looking forward to see in Malaysia was The Petrona Towers. The spectacular structure of the two towers standing tall at a height of 452m is a view you can't take your eyes off. The elevator gives two stops - one at the 44th floor with a connecting bridge at the two towers and one on the 88th floor which has an observation deck. The views from both the spots will leave you spell bound.
Not just in broad day-light, the tower leaves you speechless when the lights are lit during the night. It's hard to not fall in love!

Night - The Petrona Towers

The next day, I headed to the 400 million years old Batu Caves. This is one the very famous Hindu Shrine dedicated to Lord Murugan. The statue of the Lord stands tall at 42m high. If you are the type who loves your cardio and would not want to miss it even while you travel, well then the 300 odd steps of the Batu Caves are exactly what you need. Its a hell of a task to climb up but once you do and enter the caves, you are in for some gorgeous range of caves. The only thing to watch out for are the monkeys en-route to the top.
The Batu Caves

Malaysia being in the equatorial region, the temperature is fairly high hitting 30degrees with humidity all around the year. So make sure you get all dressy in your summer dresses in bright vibrant colours.

I then took an early morning flight to Singapore. My first impression of The Changi International Airport was WOW! The airport is extremely well organised with easy access to information that you otherwise scramble to find. I had requested for a late check-in and The Furama Hotel staff (yes, I booked them too in Singapore) politely obliged.

I loved Singapore as a city - extremely well planned, I had a metro station and a bus station close to my hotel. #TravelTip - always book yourself in a place that is close to a public transport station. This will definitely help when you have to budget explore the city on your own or in time of crises.

The stop at The Marina Bay, The Merlion and The Singapore Flyer are the attractions you wouldn't want to miss. I was most happy about having a capsule to myself in The Singapore Flyer which I missed in London.

The Merlion

Do take a stop in the evening at Gardens By the Bay. You will not be disappointed by the musical light show.

You visit Singapore and you don't have a day to visit The Universal Studio at The Sentosa Island, you would miss out on a lot of fun. I was like a girl in the candy store at The Universal Studios., spoiled for choices among-st the meet-and-greet session with your theme parks of Madagascar, Puss and the Boots, Jurassic Park to a name a few.

If you like the sea, then The S.E.A Aquarium is a must visit. You're sure to find beautiful fish species that make you in awe of the marine life forms we have. The best is The Dolphin Show to see and experience their world up-close.

Singapore also has waxed some of the famous personalities in Madame Tussauds Singapore. Get to be interviewed by Oprah, have your breakfast at Tiffinays or score a goal with Ronaldo. You have it all. If you want to feel home and patriot - a namaste from Modi will bring you back to India in a jiffy.

If you have an extra day, indulge in some shopping. Singapore offers you great brands and equally unique street shopping experiences. You can buy a whole new bag to fill in what you have shopped, just the way I did! :)

If you want to have a great first time international destination travel experience, Singapore is the place to be. Fun guaranteed!

Watch live to Live

R-C-B….R-C-B…R-C-B; This is what I was welcomed to as I entered through the Gate-13 of the M.Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bangalore to get my first-hand experience at a live cricket match. My two favorite teams pitting against each other – RCB and KKR. Here’s a secret, both these teams are my favorite because (a) RCB is a home team (b) KKR is owned by the man who I have adored since I was in my 5th grade in school. Well if you still don’t get it and by any means thought it was Juhi Chawla and Jay Mehta, then think again! It is only because of The One and The Only Shah Rukh Khan (will be referred as SRK henceforth ;)). It’s been a dream since the IPL season kick started 11 years ago that if I ever watched a live cricket match, it would be between RCB and KKR. It happened to be true!

After crossing the multiple security check-points, I was welcomed by two beautiful ladies who stopped me to ask who I would be rooting for that night. I wanted to pick KKR, but I dint! I wanted to be true to my home team and decided to support RCB with all my heart. My friend (oh, who by the way, was super generous to lend me a ticket to the VIP Grand Terrace) chuckled and re-confirmed if I was sure.
The VIP Grand Terrace Ticket

It dint take me long to realize why cricket is celebrated so religiously in India. The grand VIP terrace was exuding grandeur in its true form. While I settled in, I saw the stadium fully packed and the people rooting for RCB with great enthusiasm. I was star-struck right from the start. Being privileged to get a Grand Terrace ticket is a dream. If not all the current players, you get so see the ex-players walking in and out, the current players’ wives at arms-length reluctantly exchanging smiles.
From the gallery of the VIP Grand Terrace

I wasn’t expecting this level of lavish ambiance. The buffet spread and the drinks at the bar were to die for. As the match picked up pace with RCB batting first in the innings, the craze was out of the world. The vibe in the stadium, the energy level not just amongst the players but the spectators was unmatched. It felt like people had come down just to see the partnership between Kohli and AbD. It was a treat to watch them play. They definitely met every fans expectations.

RCB put a great score of 205 for KKR to chase. As the 2nd innings began, the hopes of the people in Bangalore was sky high. The expectations on RCB, most importantly on Virat to lead the team to the much needed victory was obvious in the eyes of each spectator.
RCB and KKR during the strategic time-out

If only we had emerged victorious that night, it would have been an icing on the cake to my first time experience. One little secret, I also was hoping that SRK would be there that night and I would get a selfie with him. While that still remains an un-fulfilled dream, but hey, I did manage to get a selfie with Mr.Sunil Gavaskar. For now I will make do with that and the exhilarating experience I had with my first ever live cricket match. YAY!!

Until next time it’s only R-C-B…R-C-B….R-C-B.

Anchoring Life

Life surprises everyone when you least expect it. That's exactly what happened on one summer evening with a bunch of friends over a drink. Now I'm uncertain if I was dared into this act of bravery or if my friends were drunk so much so that they threw this challenge at me.

Whatever be the case, I decided to get inked.

What one forgets is, deciding to do is one thing, actually getting it done is a different ball game all together. From that evening, I started researching on what tattooing is, how's it done etc etc. As much as I spent my time on the "how painful would it be" part, I dint really spend any time on the former - which is Researching. That is simply because I dread injections. Anything to do with a prick in my conscious self, I run in the opposite direction. I am paranoid of getting vaccinations or IV although in the recent past I have had many tours to the hospitals getting exactly the same.

Note that I mentioned pricking in my conscious being. When I reached out to the tattoo Artist, I unabashedly mentioned to her that I would gulp a few glasses of wine and come over to her studio to get the tattoo and be oblivious to the pain and get home. But, I was disappointed yet again because liquor is a strict no-no.

My fear still prevailing, I asked her what would be the intensity of the pain that I might have to endure. She in all her tranquility stated "Don't you worry, it wouldn't be half as painful as the pain you endure for your threading". As much as I felt relieved hearing that, I wouldn't settle in. I asked my friends who had got themselves inked by sitting through the whole process for hours and they had a different view point all together.

Cut to current state, I had the picture in mind and the body part I wanted to get inked. By mustering all the courage that I can ever imagine and with my support system whom I fondly call my lifelines; I landed at the tattoo studio. There was another round of reality check and convincing needed for me in the studio as well. After an hour of all the talks and confidence build up, I lay there on the tattoo bedding with all the equipment and the ink around me ready to get inked for life!!

Amidst all the fear, I still managed to tell my friend to click pictures! Yeah, well you don't want to miss the moments of the act of bravery put out there for you to take a look at later.

I wouldn't say it wasn't painful, but what I enjoyed the most was I had never ever in my wildest dreams thought of getting a tattoo done. The first one always holds a special place in your heart and life and body of course :)

What's the significance of the tattoo in my life? It's the anchor of my life and very close to my heart!!

Will I get inked again? Well, never say never!!

Chickpet and Raja Market - My official wedding gift to a friend!!

"Don't wear high street fashion if you want to bargain." These were the exact words which my friend fired at me when we decided to go on wedding shopping to Chickpet and Raja Market (before you imagine anything out of ordinary, it was for my friend's wedding).

The places I am sure are synonymous to all Bangaloreans who have a wedding function happening in their household or even otherwise. I have heard of these places as well but never had a first hand experience of it. This time, I finally decided to shed the fear and take a stroll on the streets. I don't think I would have done that without this friend of mine.

We took an auto from one of the signals at Majestic and directed the auto-driver to Chickpet circle. He obviously was the no-meter auto that we encounter on Bangalore streets. As we got off and started walking through the streets, I, after a very very long time sensed the fear of getting lost on the streets directionless. I repeatedly kept asking my friend to stay in the range of my visibility. She obviously was a pro at walking such busy streets while I was struggling my steps forward.

As I walked behind her, there came a point where I saw a bull pulling the cart coming right on to me. I screamed my lungs out thinking the bull would charge at me anytime because I came in its way!! That was the most scariest moment and I realized I managed to get the attention of few passer-by's due to the screaming.

She also mentioned that we should take a walk in the very famous Raja Market. While the name sounds majestic, it is no way close to it. This place is no less than a maze with so many entries and exits. Every entry/exit had a Raja Market board written in some AD which had so many cobwebs and rust around it. What surprised me was people thronging this place even in the scorching heat with sweat dripping down their foreheads.

As much as it was a thrilling experience for me, I am not very sure if I would be confident and brave to venture this place again.

The final cherry on the cake was the auto ride back. The auto driver who finally agreed to give us a ride had an auto which was completely air-conditioned and no BHP whatsoever. I leave it to one's imagination on how the auto looked and rode us back.

I don't know if I have to thank her or I have a rage towards my friend to let me experience this wonderland. Well for once I will be nice and Thank Her for this madness. Adios!! until I am back from her wedding and perform my duties as a bride's maid!!

Beautiful Bali

When some hear's the name Bali, the few immediate images that come to your mind are the scenic beauty of the place, tropical sun gazing through the mountains, never before seen the sunset. I was no different in expecting this and maybe more.

Talking to a few close friends, I thought I was quite geared up for a relaxing trip. But to have the much desired laid back trip, one must go through some bumpy rides for sure. The carrier plane to Bali crash lands (a little exaggerated here ;)) you at the Denpasar Airport. What you wish is a slow-paced airport and people ready to welcome you, but to my surprise, what I witnessed is the lively airport, bustling with the crowd who were excited to visit this place as much as I was.

I was picked up by my very friendly driver, Kittu, we drove through the sunny day from the airport to the resort. It was a good 45minutes drive from the airport. What I found interesting as we traveled through the roads were the many beautiful buildings some of which were half done and some of them that spoke volumes of the culture of Bali.

The Grand Mirage Resort
I was lucky to visit two of the most spectacular sunset points in Bali just right in time when the sun was setting. First was the Tanah Lot and the second being the Uluwatu. As I explored these places, I realized that the local people in Bali are so warm and welcoming towards tourist. They are so cheerful with their daily chores that it is hard to not have a cheerful day.
Sunset at The Tanah Lot

Uluwatu

For all the seafood lovers, this place has the best salmon to offer. I must say I haven't eaten such a lip-smacking salmon in ages.

Street shopping is a must in Bali to pick a few local offerings. Although the place is filled with tourist, the island is still quite affordable no matter what your taste is. The only catch being, you have to be extremely proficient at bargaining.

In general, Bali enjoys bright, sunny and warm weather all through the year. For all the water sports fanatics, you will be spoilt for choice.

I also had a chance to witness The Devdan Show - a magnificent display of art and culture under one roof. I had minimalist expectations from this show as my past experiences in theatre and art haven't lived my expectations. But The Devdan Show made up for all the loss. The dancers were spot on with their moves. The stage was a grandeur. I was wondering how the 3-hour long show kept the audience yearning for more.

Bali definitely has something to offer for everyone. I have saved my next trip Bali to venture more with a lot more time at hand. 4 days spent there went in a jiffy!!

The Act of Convenient Superstition

Everyone of us, at some point in our lives have been a victim of superstition. While there are many around you who strongly believe in superstition, the rest choose to conveniently believe it.

You may wonder, how different are the two? One is purely based on your deepened belief system where you don't take a step ahead without looking at the star reactions and their implications on the move you make. The other is a reasoned and selectively chosen belief system, in which you choose only to decide on what you can't decide, let the stars decide for you and move ahead. The rest of them, you take a calculative approach.

While I sat down to list out the many approaches we have in our day-to-day life today, I failed to classify them into categories of Real versus the Convenient. Simply because, the reason to classify oscillates between the two depending on a number of external reasons and approaches that may seem right to me but wrong to someone else. Hence, I just decided to understand the nuances of anything said against any system or religion and claim these to be just my view-points.

Let me start off with the most common belief that everyone has - The Horoscope match of a suitable alliance before moving ahead. Most of us might be aware that this is the most and the crucial part of any prospective alliance consummating into Holy Matrimony. Someone decides that some complex yesteryear algorithm reading into the star positions of the boy and the girl to deduce if its an alliance worth taking forward. What happens to the people from the same religion, who are in love but their Horoscope don't match? What happens to an inter-religion couple? Do they give up on the person they love or they go ahead and take the plunge and risk their lives, their partner's life and the relationship or have a workaround to temporary given solutions? Validation point or no validation point, this aspect depends on what you choose to believe and let go of the other.

The next thought that came into my mind is the direction in which you sleep. They say some directions in which your head rests are not suitable for your success and prosperity or is a sign of a bad omen. Now, let's take a one case of an insomniac like me (I would limit the examples to me, as it's a lot safer). To be able to have a sound sleep on many of the nights, I will not be able to justify which direction gives me a peaceful sleep. I change innumerable places and directions just to fall asleep. My prosperity primarily depends on the sleep I get the night before. So I can't really make sense out of this one.

The other thought or might as well say the discussion that came to my mind was when I was having this conversation with a friend of mine on a rainy day. I just happened to mention to her that I feel something is going to be terribly wrong. Although, the part of something being terribly wrong is yet to be experienced (God please give me strength while that happens!!), but what took me by surprise is she mentioning to me that I have such feelings because I have too many moles on my face. Failing to comprehend, I requested her to enlighten me. She confidently states that, the more moles you have on your face, indicates that there would be more problems in future. Hence, it would be a good idea I get rid of them. Now, the only immediate reaction I could give her was, I would get rid of the moles to enhance my beauty and have a spotless face. If eradicating moles, would eradicate the problems in life, then that would be the first thing anyone would spend their hard earned money on. Isn't it?

There are so many such conversations or debates that I have with my friends or with my own mind. Sometimes, unintentionally you fall prey to these superstitious behaviors that you can not completely do away with. But it would be more apt, if we were informed and learned about our superstitious beliefs and not drive our life and survival only based in these.

The Golden Triangle: Delhi - Agra - Jaipur

Family vacations are rare, specially when everyone's caught up in their own schedule. We finally managed to get ourselves together and decide to go on a quick yet worthwhile trip. Like always, after numerous discussions and Yes's and No's, we came to a common conclusion (which is a miracle ;)) that we would visit what is famously called The Golden Triangle - Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.

After battling the flight delays, we landed in Delhi to a pouring afternoon. We checked-in to our hotel and decided to take on the streets of Delhi for what its famous for - Delhi Chaats. You sure will not be disappointed. I am not a big fan of chaat, but the chaat thela's of Delhi will soon make you an avid chaat lover.

The next day we were set to city tour Delhi. The first early morning stop was The India Gate. This place effortlessly brings the feeling of patriotism in you. To visit Delhi just after the Republic Day wrap up is so emotional. Navigating through Delhi is not tricky at all. The directions are very clear. As long as you maneuver the traffic, you're good. The Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb spell history that is hard to not be overwhelmed at. The Lotus Temple and Akshardham dispense serenity, creativity, purity and calmness to every soul.

The Qutub Minar
Humayun's Tomb
For a Delhiwala it's the usual, but for a tourist, the Dilli ki sardi accompanied with garam garam Jalebi's on the streets of Chandni Chowk, The kebab's at Kareem is a definite treat.

After a heart warming stay at Delhi, it was now time to explore Agra. The first and the only place that comes to mind when anyone thinks of Agra is The Taj Mahal. I had a lot of expectations from this place and I wasn't disappointed at all. There is no reason why, it shouldn't be one of the wonder's of the world. There is no reason why, it shouldn't symbolize love. There is no reason why, you would not fall in love with a place like this. No prizes for guessing, this place will definitely make you fall in love with not just your partner, also with yourself.
The Taj Mahal
They say the beauty of The Taj increases exponentially on a Full Moon Night. I am sure it does and I would love to come back to witness the beauty of this gorgeous creation and fall in love all over again.

We then continued our voyage to Jaipur. Jaipur is a city of colors - vibrant colors. It just perks up your day and brings in a big smile. Our visit to The Ajmer Fort, Fatehpur Sikri and Hazrat Sheikh Salim Chisti's Dargah was enchanting. These places only prove the unending curious lifestyle of  Akbar, the Great and Jodha Bai who fell in love with dignity and respected each other's differences which is a rare sign today. The devotees who come to Salim Chasti's Dargah claim that the Dargah has magical powers to fulfill your wishes.

The Hawa Mahal proves it's beauty as the sun sets and you take a stroll on the busiest streets of Jaipur.
The Hawa Mahal just at the sunset in Jaipur

You cannot leave Jaipur without gorging on the very famous Pyaaz ki Kachori and of course treating yourself to some Jaipur Shopping. If Chandani Chowk, Karol Bagh and Khan Market in Delhi boast of modernized outfits, then the streets of Jaipur leave no stone un-turned with their colorful Bandani's and Mojari's. They alwys will hold a special place in your wardrobe.

As I depart from this trip, I realize India is a country that is enriched with History. Indians have to take time off to explore it. See you soon with my next expedition. Until then, happy travelling!!!

My tyrst with Mr. Insomniac

Every time when someone would ask me, "Hey, did you sleep fine?", I flustered to answer this question. Most of my friends would easily respond saying they had a good nights sleep. I always failed to comprehend what is a good nights sleep and how does one have a good nights sleep?

Is it to snore your way to glory? Is it the tiredness after great sex (I say that because, all my friends are married and love their spouses)? Is it the rumbling sound of the fan which is critical to put you to sleep? Is it the nice playlist on your phone which is a must? Is the bed time stories to tell your child while you put them to bed? Is it a nice book by the bed side you read before you close your eyes into the imaginary world? Is it the romantic movie you watch which magnifies your dreaming capabilities? I can go on and on..... but fail to understand how does one achieve a good nights sleep?

As I wonder on most of the days to get the answer to this question, I realized that during the nights I began falling in love with an imaginary soul - Mr.Insomniac. The more days I was awake, the more deeper we got connected. As funny as it might sound, but Mr.Insomniac doesn't really answer any of my questions, because he knows, if he did I would dump him. *wink*.

Well we started talking almost every night and I must say Mr.Insomniac is quite a personality and a great company. He ensures to make every single night of mine very interesting and longer than the previous one. He just doesn't give up even when I ask him to leave me alone for sometime. Such thick is our friendship. And what can I say, I see it growing deeper and thicker with every passing day.

As much as I like Mr.Insomniac and don't want my tryst with him to come to an end, I wish he understands that I need my space too. Yes Mister, you need to be alone on some days and  let me be alone as well. Only then will this friendship last longer, else you would see it gone before even one of us realizes.

I wish I had not…..

A lot of times we hear people say that I wish I had done this and done that, which means they regret not having done certain things in life.

Well, can you look back at your life and see if there were any moments in your life you wished you had not done? I do sometimes go through the phase were I feel I should not have done that, should not have said that, should not have even had a thought which I dint like cross my mind. But then, it was all done, said and thought. It was too late.

If you could go back and undo those times today, would you? I certainly would!! But how the conversations would have been while un-doing those times needed another level of courage and maturity to understand.

Every time, I have the thought of “I wish I had not” cross my mind, it leaves a very big impact making me feel awkward and the thought gets stuck in my head for a very long time until I perform the cleansing action. When I go through that mental anguish and look for a door to vent that anguish, I probably end up writing, not because I can’t articulate it, but because the pain is so deep that I feel my vocal chords stop functioning. The only permissive organs that functions at that point in time in my body are my mind, my broken heart and my tear glands.

Now that I wish I had not, but then I know I did, there comes the bigger battle to fight - holding myself accountable. The biggest irony, yet beauty of life is, not knowing how it’s your fault and yet being accountable for not having to do what you did. It’s a tough battle!!!

How many times have I gotten past that battle, I don’t know. I say I don’t know because I wish the venting and talking happened more realistically. I feel it’s a challenging event that happens to me.

I know I love myself a lot and I can love people who matter to me going all out, but I do feel miserable on some days. You might wonder how can one feel miserable if they are so self obsessed. I don't have answers to it either. Does my mind know? - Maybe. Does the thought in my mind say it loud and clear for me to accept it and move on - Maybe or Maybe not....

California, A dreamland - San Franciso and The Napa Valley

I landed in San Franciso, California on a cold or should I say chilled Thursday morning. First look as you start entering the city and you know this would be a magical place. San Franciso is a home to people from all cultures - the hippies, liberals, techhies, up class sophistication included.

As I toured through the city, my first stop was at the Golden Gate Bridge. This is one of San Franciso's famous landmark. As much a breathtaking view you get of the place, it is also true that you would not want to miss a single angle of this beautiful place. I was no different. Even with the coldest breeze blowing your hair and freezing your face, you still love every pictures captured.
The Golden Gate Bridge
Touring the city is an adventure in itself. The Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39 and Ghiradelli Square speak volumes of the vibrant culture of this City with street performers, numerous souvenir shops and passer-by's waving at each other randomly is a sight to watch and experience. As you go around the city you realize that the entire city is crazy with steep roads thrown randomly at any junction you walk past.
At the Pier 39
SFO is a place where you can find almost all types of transportation. It's definenitly worth trying them all. Like the cable car, which is a must ride. The moment you enter this cable car, you would be amazed at how this age old mode of transportation is the most loved one in one of the most busiest places, The Union Square. People swarm the cable cars both as an adventure ride and as a serious transport mode.

SFO will never disappoint you with its vivacious aura. One such place is The Lombard Street. You will always wonder the craziness of people in SFO. The guide says, in SFO when you say someone that it can't be done, you will see it done. Hence, The Lombard Street was born. The pleasure it brings to the eyes of a tourist is unimaginable. If you have been procrastinating your workout, one uphill and downhill walk on this street and it will change your mind. Enough to motivate you to stay fit

My weekend getaway in California was to The Napa Valley. As me and my friend drove zipping past the vineyards in the rains, the scintillating silence and the beauty of the nature both complied together is an experience and a sight you can't forget in the longest of time.
The route to Napa Valley - Had to be obvious
Needless to say why Napa has one of the best wines in the whole wide world. The wine tasting tour was definitely icing on the cake to this trip. One gets to taste a lot of different kinds of wines for low prices. It's a must visit with your partner for a romantic getaway. To sum up the entire wine tasting experience at Napa in just two words - Simply Divine.

Being to San Franciso and Napa was just the tip of the ice-berg for the many things done and beyond. Until I get there again to see a lot more places, I wish to live-by and cherish the moments spent there. All worth it!!

Give it all or don't give at all..

It's been after a long time I decided to pen something down. When I sat down to think what I should be writing, my mind was hit with a tsunami of thoughts. Finally, I zeroed on something which is really close to my heart, which I have believed in the recent years of my life.

The thought of giving it all or not giving in the first place is very relative to every person. The word "all" has difference of perception. The possibility of giving it all for you may not be returned in "all" aspects to you. It's an ideology I believe in which to me is transformational. It's something I have learnt over the years of past experiences in my life and the people who have come and gone in my life. For those I know are genuine, I totally stand by them, support them and giving them without expecting to receive something. By doing so, you don't become an important part in their life, but you definitely will learn to honor your capabilities. You learn to hold yourself in high regards, even if it comes with a lot of pain in the process because that is what shapes you as a person.

When I look back to retrospect the person I was may not be long ago and to what I am today, I have definitely changed for my own good. Growth has been painful because it did not happen overnight. It came with its own grief and aches. When I just thought everything was going to be flatline, there always was this deep down self love which triaged the pains and pulled me back to life. It's always painful when you push yourself outside of your comfort zone. It's like hitting the gym the very first day and experiencing the soreness in the muscles the following day. But it's this transformation that makes you both fulfilling and challenging.

I am a strong believer of Karma. I do know what goes around comes around. Well, if I have been giving selflessly for so many years of my life, some day I hope the giver receives it too. Sometimes one tries very hard to convince people that we are human, that we matter and we are deserving. What I feel is, it's not important to convince people, its important to convince yourself.

And that my friend according to me is by giving it all.

Definitely..... 30's is the new 20's

As I see myself and most of my friends starting a new chapter in life as we all step into 30, is there a sudden rage to do a lot many things than you anticipated? The bucket list unexpectedly seems to be the highest priority.

I barely recall things that I wished for happened while I was in 20’s. Of course there always will be a few incidents that happened without much in your control. For now, let’s flush those off. I don’t have anything against all the twenty’s something but I honestly feel your 20’s aren't the best of years.

30’s definitely yes. This is why….

When you try and find yourself as a person, making mistakes become inevitable. By that I don’t mean, you are all perfect and sorted when in 30’s. It’s  just that you get a lot more knowledgeable about stuff and make an informed decision rather than just assuming and then failing miserably and hoping the reverse assumption had worked. You have more direction towards what you want in life. This may sound cliched, but you definitely grow wiser as you get older. I say this not with the pretext of hair turning grey, but more on the lines of caring less about other people’s opinions of you and more about your own.

Women out there will love me for this and men surely will envy. Hell yeah, women in their thirties are smoking hot and a lot sexier. They exude confidence than ever before and play “I’m hot and I know it, whether or not you like it” on repeat mode in their minds. With the flair for creativity and experiment that they would have tried and tested enough in the past, they now get so close in understanding their bodies; exactly know what color, cut, fit in clothes suite them; how to make their tresses, what make up to be used. Elegance becomes prime importance than being flashy and weird looks. Taking care of the body as a place of worship is what it would be called. This only means there’s a new burst of feeling young and youthful and why not, after all age is just a number.

For having caught up in many situations in the past, by the time you’re in your 30’s one thing for sure come’s to realization is no matter what the situation, there definitely will be some life-changing twists and turns that you as a person will embrace and learn to live by. You’re wise enough to make friends who genuinely nurture and care about your friendship, love and affection and reciprocate it in the same way if not better. You unabashedly perform a cleansing act when you know someone is not important to you minus all the guilt. Yes, guilt free living becomes the mantra of your life.

You truly realize the meaning of Me Time which allows you to unplug from everything around you and just be yourself. Complimenting yourself puts a smile on your face which in the earlier ages fished for “likes” and “double taps” on social media. You no longer wait for a convincing compliment and neither does a criticizing remark brings down your morale.

And finally, you do get to a point to crack intelligent jokes. Like famously quoted, you learn to CYA

Girl Goes the Fitness Path

Who doesn't need a healthy living which can be easier to achieve and a lot more fun. Everyone's super busy these days, with their time being valuable. So to really squeeze out time to get fit can be a daunting task. It's extremely easy to procrastinate but you really need someone to kick you in your butt and ask you to get into those yoga pants that are getting shredded in your wardrobe.

With working out, one of the most important ground rule is to keep it real. You will not wake up to a six-pack abs overnight. It's important to have someone constantly remind you that to be fit is a no-bullshit approach. A mix of workout can be awesome fun - Cross fit, kick boxing, yoga, boot camping (I am sure there are many more to come as I explore my workout routine). Someone truly said, variety is the spice of life. It's so apt when it comes to workout, because unless you beat monotony, there's no fun.

Fitness not only makes you stronger, it also empowers your thoughts, makes you more self-loving and self-accepting. As a women, it helps you get candid with your body, appreciate feminism.

For the avid food-lover that I am, fitness comes to me as an added advantage because it keeps my metabolism raring to go so that I can binge on anything. Yes, I know you might be thinking that if I don't maintain a diet to go with fitness then it's all gone down the drain. But who cares, as long as I make heads turn, I am good on the fitness-meter. ;)

To be surrounded by friends who vouch on being fit is a value add. They inspire you, challenge you, motivate you and in the end don't feel complex in complimenting you. You just feel refreshed on an otherwise ordinary day. The transformation stories that you narrate with pride is all worth it. It's only when you evolve, is when you deeply fall in love with yourself and being fit does just that. It helps you evolve and re-energize  yourself.

I only wish I had started off a lot earlier, but better late than never. I just love the new me, the fit and fabulous me.

Lady's Love - London

To be bitten by a travel bug is an amazing feeling. It only increases the urge to visit places endlessly without a break. But as this seems to be an unrealistic ask, I managed to go on a budget vacation to one of my favorite destinations - London. Travelling thousand miles and landing in this beautiful city instantly brings an energetic feeling.
View of the London City as I prepare to land in Heathrow

Landed early morning in Heathrow and deciding to take a tube to my place of stay is a brave move for a first time visitor. But the whole experience right from time go was exciting. I boarded a train from the Heathrow underground station to Gloucester Road station from where my hotel Kensington Rooms was just a 5min walk.
Kensington Street

Taken as a whole, London is pretty noisy and fast paced. People are very active. Every area, every street has a story to tell. From the most ancient first of its kind naked statue in London, to the most expensive London Hilton hotel, to the numerous gates to enter Hyde Park, there is nothing you cannot not love about London. The oh-so-chic people and the expensive city that it is, it's a good blend.
One of the many Hyde Park entrances

There's an influx of immigrants from around the world. It's this mish-mash of diverse culture of people which makes London vibrant and wonderful to explore. Walking the streets in the evening as the cold breeze brushes through your face, is an experience that cannot be described in words.
One of the best brownie's I had

The major attractions in London that you cannot miss are the London Eye. The mesmerizing view that is visible from the Barracuda from the massive London Eye leaves you spell bound. You witness the entire city from that height, the Thames river, the sky high buildings - you just cannot afford to miss.
The London Eye

The Big Ben and the Westminster Abbey are two destinations which showcase the ancient architecture in the best form. There's no doubt why the Westminster Abbey is such a lavish location for all the high profile weddings. The Big Ben - although you cannot go inside but hear the bells toll every 15 minutes and witness the tower to its best advantage.
The Big Ben

The next stop was at The Buckingham Palace. What I liked about the two hour long tour of the entire palace was that the palace is opened for 7 days to the public to see the lavish rooms and experience the royalty and get a peek into the life of her Highness. There is no photography allowed inside the palace but after taking a tour, the entire place and its royalty gets etched in your mind forever and doesn't need to be snapped.

I also visited the Madame Tussauds. Although I had extremely high expectations of this place, it did not live upto my expectations with respect to the Bollywood Celebrities. They seemed unreal unlike the Hollywood Celebrities which were so human in their looks. Taking snap with Gorge Clooney, Tom Cruise, my favorite football player Christiano Ronaldo and not to forget MJ was the best.

Sitting on the roadside like a typical Londoner and picking a pancake on the go from one of the food trucks and enjoying it as I see innumerable people walk, walk and walk some more makes you wonder about the immense strength they all posses.

Spotting the Red Telephone Booth, walking across the very famous Trafalgar Square is the real London for me.
The famous Trafalgar Square

For people who love dressing up and looking great no matter what time of the day, it's a delight to shop at London. Camden Market, Oxford Street are the main shopping destinations in London. Those who can afford splurging on some of the high end brands, Harrods is the place to be.

A great way for everyone to tour London is by walk or the tubes or the Hop-on-Hop-off buses. Buy an Oyster Pass and you're all set to explore London at your convenient best.

The only thing I missed in London is the snow. But as they say, whatever happens, happens for the best. Maybe not witnessing London snowfall this time is a hint for me to visit London yet again. Until then, I will enjoy the moment by singing the very famous rhyme standing on the London Bridge.

Free Spirited in Bulgaria

After a lot of Yes and No on the visit to Bulgaria, time flew and the day finally arrived when I would set my feet on the Bulgarian Ground in its capital city Sofia. The winter preparation had already kicked in. The city has a unique atmosphere with the feel of many different cultures in one place. It is vibrant and beautiful.

As I was picked from the Airport to check-in my beautiful Hotel room, the greenery of the place left me spell bound. If this is how the main city looked, I could only let my imagination run free spirited to see how the Bulgarian country side looked. The staff at the Hotel Vega Sofia were extremely warm and welcoming. Set at the foot of the Vitosha Mountain, the view from the hotel opening to this backdrop and seeing the sun rise every morning was a treat to the eyes.
Sunrise from my hotel room

The food of Bulgaria is extremely subtle on the Indian palate and pretty cheap on your wallet. You are served with a whole Bulgarian meal for just about 20 Bulgarian Lev. For a person like me who lives to eat, every cuisine is embraced with the same level of hunger. I tried a lot of chicken dishes in combination with potatoes, cheese, quinoa rice, basil. It was a feast. To all those who enjoy some beverages, the old in-house Bulgarian drink - Arakia (a man's drink) as it is famously called, is a must try. Don't forget to say Nazdravez as you clink your glasses.

The Vitosha Street is the most vibrant street of Bulgaria. To have this street dedicate to a close friend of mine was the least I could do to make the memory of this place immortal. Young and old, pet's and street performers, open restaurants and local shopping stores - this place has it all. Almost 4 hours of my time was spent at the Vitosha street and I could still stay here all night.

Open Restaurant's on Vitosha Street

One of the world's most beautiful and famous cathedral the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia adds to the beauty of the city. The Gold and Green tombs of the Cathedral over the off-white body of the building surrounded by white roads was blending so well with the quiet surrounding atmosphere.
The famous Alexander Nevsky Cathedral

Walking down a little, you witness the Life of Fire where there is always a fire light up in the memory of all the people who sacrificed their life for Bulgaria.

One of the most fascinating part in Bulgaria is the Yellow City Center. No it's not a mall. It's a way to identify that you are in the center of the city. I felt that was a very intelligent concept. For all those who are globe trotting, this surely helps you from being lost.

Many asked me if Bulgaria is safe. Yes, for a single woman or a man, Bulgaria is safe. If you are afraid of visiting Bulgaria due to the reputation it once had for corruption and organised crime, then you surely need to know that it is now a thing of past. Bulgarians are extremely warm and friendly. I can vouch on this because every Bulgarian I met very politely agreed to make a picture for me. *blush*

Le Panga - Pro Kabaddi

When this season of Pro Kabaddi kicked off, little was I aware that one day I would be sitting in a live stadium and cheering the teams. All that LIVE. Well as they say Never say never, that day did come into my life and how.

I am not a great fan of the game Kabaddi, but I dint want to loose out on the opportunity that was knocking at my doors to sense the vibe of the entire Live stadium and get a feel of the whole match played Live.

The match venue in Bangalore was at Kanteerva Indoor Stadium. After a long Friday work, getting to the venue was not difficult. Getting to the actual gate and the seating however, was like a treasure hunt game. I had a free seating ticket on the Yellow Upper stand and made it to the uppermost row.

As I got seated, the stadium or shall I say the Pro Kabaddi show had it all - disco lights, enthusiastic presenters, awesome Live TV coverage by the Star Sports Channel. At the corner of the play-field, I spotted my favorite RJ Danish Sait at his wittiest best. He looked dapper in his Brown Blazer and Beige Chinos. That man is really smart. After the initial small talks with the presenters and the sponsors, it was now time to call the two teams on the play-field.
My favorite RJ - Danish Sait

The two teams pitted against one another were the Bengal Warriors and the Patna Pirates. I was definitely rooting for the Bengal Warriors. They were supremely tall and very handsome. *wink* .

As the hooters blew and the match started, the crowd went crazy. The chanting of the tag line Le Panga followed by the Bangaloreans Full Charge Madi scream was so high in energy. It was a great start to the game.
Men in Blue - Bengal Warriors and Men in Yellow - Patna Pirates

I must confess that I had no idea on the scoring and the game rules. But thanks to my friend for helping me understand. If not all, but I for sure now can relate to the game much better.

The players are so agile. Their swiftness, tackling intelligence and physical power is commendable. Another interesting thing about Kabaddi is - absolutely no equipment is required to play this game. All you need is a small piece of ground, lines drawn and you are all set.

A game of Kabaddi is so native and represents the soul of India. A country where Cricket is religiously worshiped as a sport, Kabaddi definitely needs the support from the government to raise the bar of the sport if not better but at least get its due credibility.

And finally.. 10-Kabaddi, 9-Kabaddi, 8-Kabaddi, 7-Kabaddi, 6-Kabaddi, 5-Kabaddi, 4-Kabaddi, 3-Kabaddi, 2-Kabaddi, 1-Kabaddi ------- Le Panga!!
